Testimonies are powerful tools God can use to lead others to the Lord. So often we hear the phrase, God is faithful, and He is. How often do we share His faithfulness with others and especially those who do not know the Lord?
When God answers prayer, do we share it? People often look at me sideways when I tell them that God answers prayer every day. This year I have been very conscious of God’s blessing on my life as I dig deeper into Him and I’m using a small diary to record all the blessings each day to show God’s faithfulness. It is my praise book and as I look back on the short time so far, I am overwhelmed by how much God loves me.
I have often thought about the story of George Müller when he sailed up the Hudson River to an important engagement and he didn’t want to be late. The boat was becalmed. The captain said that he had done everything but nothing had helped. George told him that he had not done everything, as he hadn’t prayed! Down in the cabin George knelt and prayed, asking God to send the wind and then He thanked God. The captain then started to pray but George said, “No, don’t. 1) You don’t believe God will answer and 2) it is already done”! They went up on board and there it was, a small puff, which lead to George being on time for his appointment.
On 23rd January, my daughter, Rebecca, was married in Napier. Everyone was concerned about the weather as the forecast was terrible. forecast was terrible. It rained Thursday through to the Saturday. It was fine when they put up the tarpaulin for the outside reception on the Friday night but then started raining again. The wedding was to take place at the beach. As people asked me about the weather, I said it would be fine. God had given me that peace as I had prayed the night before, thanking Him for what He was going to do. They didn’t believe me! On the day, Rebecca asked me, “Mum when do I make the call to have the ceremony at the reception?” “Not now,” was my reply, “it will be fine!” Two hours before the wedding time at 1:30 pm the rain stopped and everything went according to plan. Just as the photos in the Centennial Gardens were finished, a few spits started but nothing came of it. From then on the weather was great – not too hot or cold! I told quite a few people of the story of George Müller that day. Now I have my own!
Do you have a story to tell? I have stories for every day this year. I love to tell children and adults about God’s goodness to me. He is faithful! Why not tell someone about God today and throughout this new year of 2010.
